HUST, a comprehensive research university in China, has been accepting international students since the 1960s. With over 2000 students from 120 countries, 1500 study for degrees. HUST offers 41 schools, 1 department, 2 institutes, and 1 Sino-Foreign Joint Institute. It manages four National Laboratory/National Science Centers and fosters an artistic and athletic community.
The ten main categories of HUST's academic offerings, which include philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, science, engineering, medicine, management, and the arts, reflect its status as a comprehensive and multidisciplinary research institution.
With 103 undergraduate, 201 master's, and 188 PhD programs, HUST provides a broad range of degree programs. In addition, there are 15 national key sub-disciplines, 7 national significant first-level disciplines, and 39 post-doctoral research centers. Fourteen HUST disciplines received "A-level" ratings in the Ministry of Education of China's 4th round of the China University Subject Rankings. Public health and preventive medicine, mechanical engineering, optical engineering, biomedical engineering, and biomedical engineering are ranked A+ (top 2%).
In 2020, Thomson Reuters released the most recent report on Essential Science Indicators, and it showed that 16 research areas at HUST are now ranked in the top 1% globally among peers. Notable among these areas are engineering, computer science, materials science, clinical medicine, and chemistry.
