PROGRAMME EMPHASIS
The faculty offers nine six-semester undergraduate study programs with 180 ECTS credits each. After completing three years, students can pursue 14 graduate studies or find professional employment. The graduate study programs last two years and each have 120 ECTS credits. The faculty also offers a postgraduate study in agricultural sciences lasting six semesters and granting students a Doctor of Sciences in biotechnical sciences and agriculture. Students can also enroll in three postgraduate specialist studies in animal sciences, fisheries, and an executive MBA in agribusiness and commerce. The Animal Sciences and Fisheries studies last one academic year, while the Executive MBA in Agribusiness and Commerce lasts two academic years. After completing these studies, students are awarded the titles of University Specialist in Fisheries, Animal Sciences, or University Specialist MBA Agr.
Graduates have a wide range of career options in governmental or academic departments and laboratories, agricultural institutes, and agribusiness enterprises. They can operate as risk estimators for banks or insurance organizations, as well as agricultural inspectors, agents for global agricultural businesses, agricultural journalists, and landscape architects. A lot of graduates decide to start their own businesses producing crops, vegetables, flowers, fruits, wine, animals, etc.
One of the most important things we do in order to fulfill our purpose of improving the Croatian agriculture sector is scientific research. In terms of scientists, research initiatives, and publications, the Faculty is at the forefront of Croatian agricultural science. The primary areas of study include the following: the conservation of plant and autochthonous breed biodiversity; soil and water pollution; efficient plant protection; the use of biotechnology and geo-informatics in agriculture; new technologies for sustainable and renewable (organic) agricultural production; the assessment and preservation of landscapes; the reconstruction of historical gardens; and socio-economic and marketing analyses of Croatian agriculture on both home and international markets.
PROGRAMME EMPHASIS
There are three BA programs available to students, each lasting three years and 180 ECTS. Graduate students who complete a BA program have a good chance of finding employment after graduation. Alternatively, they can enroll in one of the five two-year, 120-credit MA programs available to them. Following graduation, there is the option to pursue three years of full-time PhD study (180 ECTS). Internationally recognized instruction will be provided to students, who will also have access to a state-of-the-art faculty library that is furnished, airy, and well-stocked with a wealth of informative and engaging scholarly works. There are numerous computers available for students to use that are linked to the Internet. All levels of education are distinguished by the following: highly qualified faculty members who are also actively engaged in research; engaged students; a strong focus on student-centered pedagogical development; and an environment that is open, democratic, and fosters casual relationships between faculty and students.
The study programs are designed to give students the knowledge and skills they need to work in the food and pharmaceutical industries, in the environment, in the health care system, in food production facilities, in scientific research institutions, in public services, and in jobs that involve teaching people about healthy eating habits and promoting them—such as dieticians and nutritionists.
The research is of the highest caliber worldwide and is at the forefront of many fields, including the development and use of probiotic starter cultures, mathematical modeling, biotechnology optimization and process control, wastewater treatment, membrane bioreactors, food powder characterization, high pressure and ultrasound in food technology and biotechnology, bioactive compounds, and nutrition.
PROGRAMME EMPHASIS
The Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology in Croatia offers three undergraduate study programs: Forestry, Urban Forestry, Nature Conservation and Environmental Protection, and Wood Technology, each lasting three years. The faculty also organizes four graduate study programs: forestry, urban forestry, nature conservation and environmental protection, wood product design, and wood technology processes, each lasting two years. Students participate in newly equipped classrooms, laboratories, training and forest research centers, and field classes at the faculty's five centers, distributed among important climatic zone forest communities in Croatia.
Students completing Bachelor's and master's programs in Forestry, Urban Forestry, and Wood Technology can find employment in various sectors, including complex companies managing state forests, private forest management agencies, state ministries, county and municipal offices, and forest institutes. Urban Forestry graduates can find employment in national and nature parks, horticulture companies, state agencies and offices for environmental protection and conservation, and state ministries with a nature conservation component. Wood Technology graduates can find employment in companies in the wood processing industry, design, architecture, and construction, and can apply their knowledge to state ministries, agencies, and inspection services.
Two basic scientific domains are the subjects of research: wood technology and forestry. High international standards of quality are what define scientific research efforts in the context of both national and international scientific undertakings. Research is conducted in the training and research forest centers as well as in recently furnished, mostly authorized laboratories. Journals, both domestically and internationally, publish research findings. Three scientific journals and one professional/scientific journal are published by the faculty.
