PROGRAMME EMPHASIS
Nine undergraduate study programs (bachelor's degree) covering three years of study (180 credits), 29 graduate study programs (master's degree) covering two years of study (120 credits) or five years of study (300 credits), and eight postgraduate study programs (PhD degree) covering three years of study are available in the Faculty of Science. All levels of education are defined by highly qualified faculty members who are actively engaged in research and conducting high-level instruction and supervision. The faculty's departments are dispersed throughout Zagreb. The Faculty's main administration, the departments of Physics, Mathematics, Geophysics, Chemistry, and Geology, are located in Horvatovac, where a "campus of science" is currently under construction. In the near future, the departments of geography and biology will be situated at the same site.
A comprehensive science education prepares students for careers in research institutes, various industries and production sectors, the civil service (environmental protection, regional planning), public institutions (national parks, nature parks, reserves), and other fields. It also prepares them for employment as primary, secondary, and vocational school teachers.
Every member of the academic staff actively participates in high-caliber, internationally recognized research. Postgraduates and research staff from seven departments assist them. They work in many areas of science, from fundamental to applied research, and several of them have received recognition on a global scale for their contributions to science and technology.
