School of Medicine and Health Management

The School of Medicine and Health Management at Tongji Medical College Huazhong University of Science and Technology was established in 2001, combining previous departments. It includes the Department of Health Management, Medical Information Management, and several research centers. The school has 74 full-time and part-time academic staff, including 41 professors and 18 associate professors. With 300 undergraduate students, 130 master students, and 40 doctoral students and post-doctoral staff, it offers a variety of programs. In 2010, public management was awarded the Brand Discipline of Hubei Province. Social Medicine and Health Management has been rated as an A++ discipline for five consecutive years.

The school focuses on high-quality talent cultivation, constructing a professional education system, and developing science and technology training camps. It has received numerous awards, including Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation and Outstanding Master's Dissertation. Since 2004, the school has undertaken 58 National Natural Science Fund projects and 391 projects and has published over 2,200 papers and 80 monographs.

The school is a leading research institution in China's medicine and health management fields, having founded the Chinese Consortium of Universities for Health Management and promoting collaboration with international institutions. School of Public Health

Occupational and Environmental Health

The Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, which was previously authorized to confer master and doctoral degrees, has been renamed the Department of Occupational and Environmental Health. The department offers two national-level high-quality courses, including Occupational Medicine and Environmental Medicine, as well as compulsory courses like Preventive Medicine and Hygiene and optional courses like Ergonomics, Biomechanics, Trace Elements and Health, Occupational Psychology, Sub-Health Medicine, and Environment and Reproduction. The department combines education training, scientific research, and social service to meet social demands. The department has won several awards, including the National Teaching Achievement Award, Provincial Excellent Teaching Achievements, and University-level Excellent Teaching Achievements.

Research interests include the toxicology of environmental chemicals, occupational and environmental epidemiology, the effects of water pollution on health, mechanisms of susceptibility to environmental hazards, the identification of environmental chemicals and health risk assessment, and the mechanisms of biogeochemical disease. Over the past five years, the department has obtained research funds totaling over 80 million yuan from various sources, including the National Key Research and Development Project, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and other ministries and provincial-level funding agencies. The department is actively engaged in training practices and international academic exchanges, cooperating with various corporations and universities, and hosting international conferences and seminars.

Epidemiology and Biostatistics

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, established in 2011, is a leading institution in China, offering a range of courses and research in public health. The department, which includes 21 staff members, has a strong focus on education, research, and talent cultivation. With over 80% of its faculty having overseas study experience, the department has trained numerous outstanding talents for various research institutes and institutions. Its research covers topics such as cancer molecular epidemiology, diabetes epidemiology, infectious disease epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, big data in healthcare, nutritional epidemiology, and clinical epidemiology. The department has received over 5 million RMB in research funding over the past five years.

Nutrition and Food Hygiene

The Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene, established in 1956, has a staff of 18, including 18 professors, 3 associate professors, 2 laboratory technicians, and 7 postdocs. The department teaches courses on nutrition, preventive medicine, clinical nutrition, and nutriology for women and children. It has over 30 full-time master students and over 10 doctoral students. The department has edited the national higher education guidebook "Nutriology of Women and Children" and has edited a five-year plan for national key publishing books on food pollution and health. Over the past decade, the department has conducted numerous research projects at national and provincial levels, with funding exceeding 20 million CNY. The department has published over 200 SCI and SSCI papers in leading biomedical journals and has received awards such as the second prize of the Natural Science of Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education of China.

Institute for Environmental Health

The Institute of Environmental Medicine, established in 1986 by the National Environmental Protection Agency and Tongji Medical University, is a key discipline under the Ministry of Education and Key Laboratory of Environment and Health. With 17 staff members, including 8 full professors, 8 associate professors, and 1 lecturer, the institute has two majors for doctoral and master students: "Occupational and environmental health" and "Health inspection and quarantine." The main research interests include environmental pollution, health, and new technologies for environmental medical monitoring. The Institute has won several awards, including the National Science and Technology Progress Award and the Hubei Province Science and Technology Progress Award. It has also collaborated with universities in the United States, Sweden, and other countries.

Maternal and Child Health

The Department of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) was established in 2007 by the Ministry of Education as a national key discipline. It comprises five divisions and two research centers. The department offers courses in maternal and child health care, adolescent health, medical psychology, and medical statistics to undergraduate and graduate students. The faculty includes 10 members, including professors, associate professors, and lecturers. The main research areas include environmental exposure to women and children's health, the mental health of adolescents, neurodevelopmental disorders in children, growth and development, and the epidemiology of injury among women and children. The department receives 2-4 national funding projects annually and publishes around 20 English and 20 Chinese papers.

Social Medicine and Health Management

The Department of Social Medicine and Health Management, led by Prof. Lu Zuxun, was established in 1981 and has a staff of 10, including a professor, associate professors, lecturers, and senior editors. The department teaches courses such as "Social Medicine," "Health Management," "Health Education," "Evidence-Based Medicine," and "Design and Application of Medical Research Projects." Over 20 full-time master students and nearly 10 doctoral students are enrolled. The department has received numerous research projects at national, ministerial, and provincial levels, with funding exceeding 20 million CNY. The main research areas include community health services, family medicine, health care systems, standardized medication management, and social determinants of health. The department has published over 200 SCI and SSCI papers and has received several awards, including the Hubei Province Science and Technology Progress Award and municipal-level awards.

Health Toxicology

The Department of Health Toxicology, a key discipline in occupational and environmental health, has seven faculty members, including three professors, two associate professors, and two technicians. The department has edited textbooks for undergraduates and was approved as the Research Center for Pesticide Toxicology in 1997. It offers compulsory and optional courses for undergraduate and graduate students, including Progress in Toxicology, Health Toxicology, Environmental Toxicology, and Experimental Research Methods of Toxicology. Research interests include neurotoxicology, molecular and biochemical toxicology, and reproductive toxicology. The department has received numerous research projects, including key projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Hubei Natural Science projects.

Department of Forensic Medicine

Forensic medicine is a promising subject that can bridge natural science and social science. The Department of Forensic Medicine at Tongji Medical College, one of the first six departments in China, was founded in 1985 and has been approved by the Ministry of Education, Justice, and Health. The department recruits undergraduate and graduate students and offers on-the-job training to forensic experts for the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate. In 1998, the department was granted a doctoral degree and began recruiting doctoral students. In 2002, the Tongji Center for Medicolegal Expertise in Hubei Province was established, affiliated with the Department of Forensic Medicine. The department has one undergraduate education program and five divisions, including forensic pathology, clinical forensic medicine, forensic biology, forensic toxicology, and forensic psychiatry. The department is equipped with advanced facilities and a library with an updated collection of books and academic journals. In 2001, the "Tongji Medicolegal Expertise Center in Hubei" was officially approved by the Hubei Province Judiciary Department. The department accepts cases of autopsy, parentage analysis, living body injury, jurisdictional identification of mental diseases, and toxicological analysis from inside or outside Hubei Province.

School of Nursing

The four-year All-English Nursing program aims to equip students with adequate English aptitude, an international horizon, a solid professional foundation, and clinical operating skills. Graduates will be competent to work in higher education institutions or large provincial hospitals, focusing on cultivating top talents specializing in modern nursing in line with international standards. Students will spend their first year learning English, followed by working on medical courses for the second to fourth year. All basic medical courses and clinical internships are taught in English.

Students will be trained to grasp English and lay a solid foundation in basic and clinical nursing. They will master nursing principles and clinical operating skills, as well as knowledge of emergency, common, and frequently occurring diseases, difficult and severe diseases, special nursing and guardianship, and performing nursing teaching and scientific research in higher-education institutions.

Department II focuses on four-year general nursing, aiming to cultivate high-level nursing talents equipped with a solid professional foundation and clinical operating skills. Graduates will be competent to work in higher education institutions or large provincial hospitals and may choose to go abroad as high-end nursing talents due to the high demands in developed western countries.

Institute of Reproductive Health

The Institute of Reproductive Health (IRH) was established in 1979 as the first institute to combine research, teaching, and clinical work in China. It is a core member of the National Key Discipline of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the National Clinical Research Center on the Diseases of Obstetrics and Gynecology. IRH has national-level platforms such as the National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for New Technology in Contraception and Birth Control and the National Clinical Trial Center for Reproductive Health and Infertility Drugs. In 2018, IRH participated in the International Evaluation of Basic Medicine Program and has become the top national-level institute in reproductive health. The institute has a high-level faculty team with 24 faculty members and 19 full-time teachers, including 9 professors, 9 associate professors, and 2 lecturers. The research direction focuses on basic scientific research and clinical application to reproductive health and related diseases. IRH has received over 60 research projects and has won several awards. The institute also offers five optional courses for undergraduate students, including contraception and sterility, sexual medicine, human assisted reproductive technology, clinical reproductive medicine, and sex and human reproduction.

Irh is an international institution for reproductive health, fostering cooperation with international organizations and institutions. It has co-cultivated 20 Ph.D. students with Yale, the National Institutes of Health, UCLA, and other institutions. As a doctoral and master's degree-granting point and mobile post-doctoral station, Irh supports over 20 visiting scholars to study abroad. The China Scholarship Council provides funding for outstanding graduate students to study at top foreign universities. Irh aims to be an open institution for reproductive health enthusiasts worldwide.

Institute of Medical Equipment Science and Engineering

Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) is a comprehensive research university under the Ministry of Education, a participant in the former "985" Project in China, and one of the first universities approved under the national "Double First-Class" Initiative. Union Hospital is a renowned medical institution known for its innovative and entrepreneurial spirit. It offers a range of graduate programs, including doctoral, master, and post-doctoral programs. The hospital is a state-level standardized training base for resident doctors and a national pilot base for specialist doctors. Union Hospital has been attracting international students for master and doctoral degrees, with over 160 international graduate students trained from 2013 to 2020. International Studies

Huazhong University of Science and Technology began enrolling international students in its Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program in Clinical Medicine in 2017. By 2021, Tongji Hospital had enrolled 378 MBBS students from over 100 countries and regions. The hospital adopted a credit system for postgraduate training, including course study, scientific research, and clinical practice. By 2019, it had enrolled 206 international graduate students, including 50 doctoral and 156 master students. Tongji Hospital has a strong faculty, with 2,266 teachers, including 620 senior teachers. The hospital has won numerous teaching achievement awards, including the National Bilingual Teaching Demonstration Courses for Surgery, Obstetrics, and Gynecology and the "English-taught Brand Courses" for international students.

Third Clinical School

Liyuan Hospital, affiliated with Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, is a comprehensive teaching hospital and budget management unit of the National Health Commission. Established in 1981, it is the only licensed "geriatric hospital" in Hubei Province. In 1997, it was merged into Tongji Medical University, becoming the Third Affiliated Hospital and the Third Clinical College of Tongji Medical University. In 2000, it was officially renamed Liyuan Hospital, affiliated with the Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. The hospital is a designated hospital for various insurances, medical insurance, commercial insurance, maternity insurance, and universities in Wuhan. It has 1,200 open beds, 800 employees, and advanced treatment methods, including 3.0T magnetic resonance, 128-slice spiral CT, an intelligent rehabilitation robot, and a tumor radiation linear accelerator.

The hospital has developed a medical pattern focused on geriatric disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. It has accumulated extensive experience in treating diabetic foot and chronic wound repair, leading in China. The hospital also supported the establishment of the Clinical Research Center for Chronic Wound and Diabetic Foot Medicine in Hubei Province. In 2020, the Liyuan Cardiovascular Clinical Center was established to build a domestic, first-class, internationally advanced cardiovascular and cerebrovascular specialty. The Hubei Provincial Institute of Geriatrics is located within the hospital, which has undertaken over 100 scientific research projects and won several awards. Huazhong University of Science and Technology's School of Continuing Education utilizes various Ministry of Education and Human Resources and Social Security bases to provide national training programs for teachers in secondary and higher vocational colleges, as well as primary and secondary school teachers. China-EU Institute of Clean and Renewable Energy

The China-EU Institute for Clean and Renewable Energy (ICARE) at Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a major program in the China-EU higher education cooperation platform. It is the first major cooperation program between the Chinese government and the European Commission in engineering education and the third Sino-European education institute jointly initiated by the two parties. ICARE launched its education programs in March 2012 and focuses on five technical fields: solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, geothermal energy, and energy efficiency. Wuhan National Laboratory for Opto-electronics

WNLO has collaborated with over 40 global research institutions, universities, and enterprises. Two international cooperation bases were established in 2015 and 2016, including the Wuhan Joint International Research Laboratory of Optoelectronics under the Ministry of Education and the International Joint Research Center of Optoelectronic Conversion and Detection under the Ministry of Science and Technology. The organization has established six academic brands, including POEM, PIBM, WHOF, WOYF, JIOHS, and FOE. School of Engineering Sciences

The School of Education (SES) is a leading internationalized teaching experiment, led by a foreign dean and teams of high-level international faculty. The school focuses on developing independent, critical, and innovative students with a strong theoretical foundation and practical technical problem-solving ability. To ensure a 1:1 teacher-student ratio, the school limits recruitment, offers small-class lessons, and emphasizes elementary education in mathematics, physics, and cross-disciplinary education. Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) has a strong history in aerospace engineering dating back to the 1960s. The School of Aerospace Engineering (SAE) was founded in 2015, focusing on the development of aerospace technology and engineering. School of Cyber Science and Engineering

Huazhong University of Science and Technology, one of China's leading information security institutions, established its major in 2002. It has since expanded its offerings to include master's and doctoral degrees and has been recognized for its excellence in the field. In 2016, the university established the School of Cyberspace Security, aiming to become a top-tier network security college. The school has been recognized for its ability and political integrity, as well as its commitment to cultivating talents.

In recent years, the college has implemented a comprehensive practical ability training program, achieving notable results in talent training. Students have won numerous awards in competitions such as the Challenge Cup, Internet +, and the National Information Security Competition. School of Arts

Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a comprehensive university under the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, one of the first batch of "Double First-Class" universities. It aims to create a world-class university by adhering to its motto of "Enlightenment and Learning, Seeking Truth and Innovation" and its philosophy of "education-oriented, innovation is the soul, and responsibility is action."
